Description
This building is a house known as Chartist bungalow, built around 1847. It features roughcast on stone rubble with rendered quoins at the corners and has a slate-hipped roof. The house has stone rubble end stacks and a central stack at the rear. It is a single-storey, three-bay structure, with the central bay projecting forward. There is a four-panel part-glazed door at the center, which is sheltered by an open trellis porch. On either side of the door are horned sash windows, and there are also four-pane horned sashes to the left and right. The central bay has a cross-gable. The interior has not been inspected.
Historically, Charterville was the third of five estates created by the National Land Company, which was formed by Feargus O'Connor in 1845. The aim was to allow people from factory towns to live on small holdings and qualify for a vote. However, the Land Company faced difficulties and was dissolved in July 1851.
