Description

The stables, now part of Cogges Farm Museum, date back to the 17th century and were remodeled in the mid-18th century. They are constructed from coursed limestone rubble and feature a hipped stone slate roof. The building has a two-unit plan and consists of one storey and a loft. There are timber lintels over two blocked openings and two 20th-century doors.

A mounting block with three steps and a straight flight of stone steps leads to a 20th-century loft door. Inside, the working-horse stable on the left includes stop-chamfered beams, wooden mangers, racks, and a chaff box against the end walls, along with harness pegs. The hackney-horse stable on the right is open to the roof and contains mid-19th-century stalls with mangers, as well as loose stabling for two horses with mangers and a trough. The roof features a six-bay collar-truss design with butt purlins.

Additionally, there is a limestone rubble wall with ashlar coping that extends approximately 11 metres in front of the left corner of the building. To the left, there is an early 19th-century traphouse made from similar materials, which has a hipped one-bay roof.
