Description
39 and 38 Sutton Lane is a house that has been converted into two dwellings. It dates from the early 18th century and was altered in the 19th century. The front wall is roughcast over timber framing, while the rest is made of coursed limestone rubble. The building has a gabled thatch roof, with end stacks that were rebuilt in 20th century brick. It features a 2-unit through-passage plan, is two storeys high with an attic, and has a symmetrical three-window arrangement. There is a thatched hood over a 19th century plank door, and the windows are 19th century two-light casements with leaded lights, including a three-light leaded dormer casement above the door. The rear elevation is similar, with chamfered timber lintels over a 19th century plank door and three two-light leaded casements, along with additional 19th century two-light casements. The interior has not been inspected but is likely to be of interest. The building was subdivided into two dwellings in the early 19th century.
