Description
Yew Tree Cottage is a house located in Sutton, dating from the late 16th century to early 17th century, with remodels from the late 17th century to early 18th century and later alterations. The building is rendered over a timber frame on a limestone rubble plinth, topped with a hipped thatch roof and featuring a right end stack made of stone finished in brick. It has a two-unit plan, is one storey high with an attic, and presents an irregular two-window range. The front has a 20th-century door flanked by two-light casement windows, while the swept dormers contain 19th-century two-light casements with glazing bars. To the right, there is an outshut with weatherboarding over timber frame on a limestone rubble plinth. A 20th-century extension is present, along with an extension from 1983 made of similar materials. Although the interior has not been inspected, it is likely to be of interest, and there is a suggestion that the house originally featured an open hall with a timber-framed chimney to the left of the two-storey chamber above the back kitchen or buttery.
