Description

Batts Cottage is a house dating to the late 17th century, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. The walls are rendered over a timber frame, resting on a limestone rubble plinth, and the roof is gabled and thatched. A stack of rendered stone, finished in brick, is located at the right end. The house follows a three-unit plan and has a single storey with an attic, displaying a two-window front. A 19th-century plank door is flanked by 20th-century two-light casement windows. Swept dormers contain 20th-century two-light casements. A matching wing was added to the front right side in 1982. An outshut is located to the left, featuring weatherboard over a timber frame on a limestone rubble plinth and a thatched roof. The interior has not been inspected, but is likely to be of interest. According to A. Pacey's 1985 publication, “Duck End: a group of Oxfordshire Houses,” pages 3-4, the cottage is of local interest.
