Description

Nos. 10 and 12, Ball Lane are two cottages. No. 12, on the left, dates to 1755, while No. 10 was significantly altered in the mid to late 20th century. The cottages are constructed of limestone rubble, and feature a stone slate roof with brick ridge and end stacks. Each has a two-unit plan. They are two storeys high, and each presents a two-window front. The entrance to No. 12 is at the rear. No. 12 has 19th-century two- and three-light casement windows with horizontal glazing bars, along with a 20th-century top-hung window on the ground floor. Painted wooden lintels are present. A datestone bearing the initials "WM" is visible. A small, one-storey range is set back on the left. The interior of No.12 includes an open fireplace with a bread oven, and a ceiling beam with ogee-stop-chamfered run-out stops. No. 12 has a 20th-century door and metal windows in enlarged openings. The cottages are included in the listing for their group value.
