Description

Delaware Cottage is a house dating from the 17th century, which was remodelled in the mid-18th century. It is constructed from colourwashed limestone rubble and features a gabled thatch roof with a brick stack at the right end. The cottage has a two-unit plan and is one storey high with an attic, presenting a two-window range. There are brick segmental arches over a 19th-century light and a 19th-century plank door with a hood to the right, as well as over a mid to late 19th-century two-light casement window to the left. Similar two-light casements are found on the first floor. A one-storey service range, built in similar materials and with a brick end stack, projects from the right side of the front wall. There is a 20th-century porch added to the right gable end. The interior has not been inspected but is likely to be of interest. The cottage was probably remodelled around 1745 when it was "put into a tenantable state of repair" by Magdalene College.
