Description

The Whetes memorial, located approximately 3 metres south of the chancel of the Church of St Martin, is a headstone dating from around 1690. It is made of marlstone and features a Baroque style design. The headstone has an egg-and-dart framed rectangular panel, which is flanked by scrolls and fruit, and is topped with a cherub's head surrounded by foliage. The inscription commemorates Mary Whetes, who died in the 17th century.
