Description
The Church of St John the Baptist is a Grade II* listed building, constructed in 1906 by architects Nicholson and Corlette. It features coursed limestone rubble with ashlar quoins and has an aisled nave designed in the Arts and Crafts Mediterranean style. The chancel has pointed lancets and is one bay in size. A chimney-like belfry is attached to the south aisle, which includes a row of chamfered polygonal lights beneath the eaves. A smaller belfry is next to the porch, which has a chamfered round-arched doorway with imposts and a lean-to on the left. The north wall of the nave has three lancets, while the west gable displays a nowy headed hood mould above a round window and chamfered one-light windows. Inside, there is a 13th-century style triple piscina, a pulpit, and a low chancel screen featuring painted decoration, along with bench ends and choir stalls that have similar moulded candelabra. The octagonal font has a carved lid, and the boarded roof includes painted tie beams, ribs, and ashlar plates. The church also contains early 20th-century stained glass.
