Description
A group of four chest tombs made of limestone is located in the churchyard, 5 metres southeast of the south porch of the Church of St. Peter.
1) The first tomb is dedicated to Sarah Herbert, who died in 178?, featuring slab panels flanked by triple fluted pilasters and a coved cornice lid with remnants of a gadrooned top. 2) The second tomb commemorates Thomas and Mary Clarrig, who died in 1667, and possibly William Barber, who died in 1737. It has slab sides, a coved cornice lid, and a heavily worn top. 3) The third tomb is for William Herbert, who died in 1791(?), and includes a moulded base and cornice lid, a moulded top, and panels set in recessed borders. 4) The fourth tomb dates from the late 17th to early 18th century and has illegible inscriptions, moulded panels, and a moulded cornice lid with a flat top.
