Description
This is a shelter shed and cartshed located approximately 30 meters southwest of Radford Farmhouse. It is possibly from the 17th century and early 19th century. The structure is built from coursed limestone rubble with some ashlar dressings, featuring roofs made of Stonesfield slate and corrugated iron, along with an ashlar stack. The building is arranged in an L-shape. The earlier, taller cartshed section is five bays long and has three open bays at the front and one open end. The later section, connected to the front by a stone wall, has a lower roof covered with stone slates and ashlar gable parapets. This section includes four open-fronted bays and an enclosed area with a gable stack and double doors in the end wall. Inside, the earlier range features trusses with a collar, tiebeam, and principals that cross at the apex to support a ridge piece, indicating it likely originally functioned as a shelter shed. The shelter shed still has a wooden manger. This building forms a close group with the farmhouse and barns nearby, which adds to its group value.
