Description

This is a three-storey house, now a shop, located at 1 Market Street, Woodstock. It dates to the early 19th century, though it has origins in the 17th century. The main fabric is of squared and coursed limestone, with a gabled Welsh slate roof and a brick end stack. The building follows a double-depth plan. Originally a one-window-range facade, it now features a 20th-century shop window. A prominent two-storey oriel window projects from the front, featuring moulded cornices, sash windows on the first floor, and casement windows with glazing bars on the second floor. A 19th-century brick gable end defines the rear wing, with a further brick wing extending behind. The interior includes an early 18th-century cellar at the rear. The first floor houses an early 19th-century marble fireplace, along with remnants of 17th-century timber framing and a queen-post truss in the right-hand wall. The building was described as "new built" in 1802, according to information from the Victoria County History.
