Description
Church Cottages are a house and cottage that were formerly subdivided, dating from the 17th century, with possible earlier elements, and also from the 18th century. They are constructed of coursed limestone rubble with squared quoins and wooden lintels, topped with concrete plain-tile roofs and rebuilt brick and rubble stacks. The building features a three-unit and a single-unit plan in a single range, standing two storeys plus an attic.
The front of No. 1, located on the left, has three windows. On the first floor, there are two three-light casements with moulded lintels and a two-light casement with a plain lintel to the right. The ground floor has three two-light casements (one with leaded glazing), a doorway, and a three-light casement to the right, all with chamfered lintels. Notably, the second window from the left was formerly a doorway. No. 2 features a two-light casement on each floor, with the door set to the left. The steep-pitched roof includes a 20th-century dormer, and there is a two-light wood-mullioned window in the right gable. It is said to have been built in 1763 but may include elements from earlier periods. The interior has not been inspected. The property was owned by the church until 1920 and was sometimes occupied by the curate of the chapelry of Chadlington.
