Description
No. 71 High Street is a house from the mid-18th century that was altered in the late 19th century. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble and features a gabled stone slate roof with brick and stone stacks at the ends. The building has a double-depth plan, is two storeys tall, and has a three-window range. An open pediment with brackets sits above a mid-18th century six-panelled door, which has two glazed panels. The late 19th century windows are tripartite sashes on the ground floor and sashes on the first floor, all set in concrete-rendered architraves. The similar rear range includes 8-pane sashes, a late 19th century four-light casement, and an early 19th century flat hood above the door. There is also an early 19th century range to the rear right. Inside, the building features cased beams, with the kitchen at the rear left having a chamfered beam and a large fireplace with a beaded wood architrave. The early 19th century dog-leg staircase has winders, stick balusters, and fluted newels.
