Description

Blanket Hall is a building constructed in 1721, featuring a panel that displays the arms of the Witney Company of Weavers, which reads "Robert Collier Master 1721". It is made of limestone ashlar and has a gabled roof with a lateral stack finished in brick. The building is designed in a Provincial Baroque style and consists of two storeys with a symmetrical three-window layout.

The entrance includes raised and segmental-headed keyed architraves surrounding plank double doors set in a heavy wooden frame with overlights. Similar architraves are found on the nine-pane sash windows and the twelve-pane sash window above the door, all of which have thick glazing bars. The exterior features a raised storey band, quoin strips, and ball finials with gadrooned bases at the corners, which support an open pediment. The pediment is adorned with half-H apron blocks beneath the cornice and a clock in the tympanum above the arms of the Witney Company of Weavers. At the top of the roof is an elegant wooden bell turret with a cupola.

At the rear, there are two similar sash windows and a round-arched doorway. There is also a remodelled 18th-century range made of coursed limestone rubble with a gabled artificial stone slate roof. Inside, there are 18th-century panelled doors, although only partial inspection has been possible. The Witney Blanket Weavers Company, which was chartered in 1711, used this building for weighing and measuring blankets.
