Description
Kings Cottage is a pair of cottages that have been combined into one dwelling, dating from the late 17th century or early 18th century, with some alterations likely made in the early 20th century. The building is constructed of coursed limestone rubble and features a stone slate roof. It has a three-unit plan and stands two storeys high, with the right side being lower.
The south-east front has a dressed stone ridge stack that is off-centre to the left, along with integral dressed stone end stacks that include offsets and copings. There are five windows on the first floor and four on the ground floor, which are probably early 20th century two-light leaded wooden-framed metal casements with stone cills. The ground floor windows have segmental-arched stone cills. A 20th-century glazed door with a segmental-arched stone head is located between the first and second windows from the left, while a boarded door with a segmental-arched stone head and a lean-to porch is situated between the second and third windows from the left.
Inside, the left-hand ground-floor room features a chamfered spine beam, a rebuilt stone fireplace that incorporates an old chamfered wooden lintel with bar stops, and a remodelling of the semi-circular winder stair located at the rear of the stack. The central ground-floor room also has a chamfered spine beam and a rebuilt fireplace with an old wooden lintel. The right-hand ground-floor room contains a chamfered spine beam and a rebuilt fireplace that incorporates an old chamfered wooden lintel with ogee stops.
