Description
Thatch Cottage is a pair of cottages that have been combined into one house, dating from the late 17th century or early 18th century. The building is constructed of painted rubble stone and features a thatched roof with end stacks. It is 1 and a half storeys tall. Originally, the cottages were mirror images of each other, each with a ground floor door flanked by a pair of casement windows on either side, and a pair of casement windows under an eyebrow above each outer window on the first floor. Currently, the doors of each cottage have been replaced with a pair of casement windows, and the door of the right cottage has replaced the left window. There are 20th-century additions at each end of the building. Inside, each cottage has an end fireplace and originally had a winding stair against the party wall, although one of the stairs has been removed. The roof is four-bay with tie-beam and collar trusses.
