Description
Bencroft Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the mid to later 18th century. It is constructed of rubble stone and features a stone slate roof with coped gables and ashlar corniced stacks on the west end wall and ridge. The building has two storeys and an attic, with a four-window range that may have originally been three windows before being extended to the east.
The farmhouse includes four gabled dormers with pairs of casement windows. The windows are cyma-moulded flush mullion types, with the left side arranged symmetrically with three-light windows on each side and a two-light window above the door, which has a moulded surround and single lights flanking it. There is a string course that originally stepped up over the door to just beneath the window above, although this part has been damaged. The right bay has a similar arrangement of three-light windows on each floor and a string course.
Additionally, there is a single-storey addition at the east end and a rear wing that also features similar mullion windows. The farmhouse is marked on the 1773 Andrews and Drury map.
