Description
The Dumb Post Inn is an inn dating from the early to mid 18th century, constructed of rubble stone with concrete plain tile roofs, featuring coped gables and ashlar end stacks. The building is two storeys tall with an attic. The formal south front has three windows, flush quoins, a raised plinth, and windows that are framed with architraves and keystones, which are cut back above the architraves. There are cornices above the ground floor windows. The windows on either side are eight-pane sashes, while the central window on the first floor is blank, and there is a blocked central door set in a raised moulded arch-headed surround with imposts and a keystone, topped with a hood on brackets. The end walls feature attic windows. The west end has a first-floor 24-pane window in an architrave with a keystone, alongside a blank window in a raised surround with a keystone. There is a later 19th-century one and a half storey rear wing that includes a large west side-wall stack and a north end stack. The eaves roof has three dormer gables that break the eaves, with pairs of casements above and a central door in a porch below, flanked by triple casements with top-lights on each side.
