Description

A pair of houses, dating from the mid-18th century, located on the south-west side of Chilson Publicote Lane. The houses are constructed from coursed limestone rubble with stone dressings, and have a stone slate roof. They are arranged with a two-room plan, and are two storeys in height with a gable-lit attic. The gable ends are parapeted and have stone copings. Integral dressed stone end stacks are present, along with a central ridge stack, featuring weatherings and offsets (though the left-hand stack has been truncated). Originally a four-window front, the windows are now mostly late 20th-century bottom-hung sash windows designed to mimic glazing bars, with flush stone lintels and stone cills. A pair of original 18th-century wooden cross windows are found on the right-hand side of the front elevation. A ground-floor fixed window with small panes is positioned off-centre to the left, and it was formerly a doorway, evidenced by a modern concrete block beneath. A 20th-century gabled porch now covers the doorway located between the first and second windows from the left. A blocked doorway is visible between the first and second windows from the right, indicated by the straight joints in the stonework. A single-storey lean-to adjoins the right-hand house on the right-hand side. A rear entrance serves the right-hand house. The interiors have not been inspected.
