Description
Walkmill Cottages is a pair of cottages, now combined into one, dating from around 1700 with mid-to-late 19th century and 20th century additions. The building is constructed of coursed limestone rubble, showing signs of former limewashing, and is painted on the left side. It features slate roofs and has an L-plan layout, consisting of one storey and an attic.
On the exterior, there is an external stone end stack to the left and a projecting 19th century gabled cross wing to the right, which has an external stone end stack at the rear and a central stone ridge stack. The first floor has two 20th century semi-dormers with 2-light casements, while the ground floor includes a 3-light casement window to the left and a half-glazed door to the right. The left-hand gable end reveals an exposed queen-post truss. The cross wing to the right has a 2-light casement in the gable end and two 20th century ground floor casements. The left-hand return front features a 2-light 20th century attic casement beneath the eaves, along with a ground floor 2-light casement and a 20th century glazed door to the left. Inside, the cottages showcase queen-post roof trusses.
