Description
The boundary wall, gatepiers, gates, and former mortuary to Trinity Hospital are located on Hospital Lane in Clun. This structure likely dates from the 17th century, although it has been partly rebuilt and extended with gates and gatepiers around 1857. The northern, north-western, and eastern sections of the boundary wall are made of coursed rubble limestone with chamfered coping, while the southern and south-western sections are constructed from coursed and roughly squared stone. The south-west corner features sandstone ashlar gatepiers that adjoin Gardener's Cottage, complete with a plinth, moulded capping, and a pair of cast iron gates with spearhead railings and a central quatrefoil frieze. The mortuary, which is now a shed, is attached to the wall on the north-eastern side and likely dates from the 18th or early 19th century. It is built from coursed limestone rubble and has a slate roof, standing at one storey with two boarded doors on the right, each topped with ogee lintels.
