Description
The walled garden and its flanking walls, located approximately 30 metres south of Sandford Park, date from the 18th century. Constructed from limestone rubble and brick, the garden features an irregular four-sided plan. The walls stand about 3 metres high, with the north wall being partly lowered but still featuring a gateway that includes a pair of wooden gates. These gates have lower sections with a Chinese-trellis design and top rails that sweep up to the piers. The east wall contains a blocked doorway with a marlstone ashlar surround and a double-stepped keyblock. This wall extends a few metres north alongside Ledwell Road and south towards Mill Lane. The structure is noted for its group value. Sandford Park is also listed in the HBMC County Register of Gardens at Grade II.
