Description

A row of three cottages and a small house, likely dating from the early 18th century. The buildings are constructed of coursed limestone rubble with wooden lintels, and have concrete plain-tile and clay pantile roofs, topped with rubble and brick stacks. The buildings are based on single-unit and two-unit plans, arranged in a range of several builds. They are two storeys high with an attic. Each cottage originally had a 2-light casement window and a door at ground floor. Number 2 has two windows at first floor, while numbers 1 and 3 have only one; all have gabled 20th-century roof dormers. Number 4, which has a symmetrical three-window front, features 2-light 20th-century casements at first floor, set below chamfered lintels. The ground floor of number 4 has a central, canopied door, flanked by 12-pane windows from the early 19th century, which extend upwards through the lintels of earlier windows. The steep-pitched roof is continuous over the entire range and terminates in four stacks. The interiors have not been inspected. The building is included on the list for its group value.
