Description

Nos. 1 and 2 The Green are a pair of cottages or a house, now divided, likely built in the late 17th century or early 18th century, with later additions and alterations. The structure is made of roughly coursed limestone and ironstone rubble, topped with a concrete tile roof. It has one storey and an attic, featuring irregular fenestration. The windows include early and mid-20th century casements with wood lintels, including three gabled half-dormers at the centre and three on the ground floor to the right, which has a concrete lintel. There are small windows to the far left, to the right of a three-light casement with a concrete lintel, and to the far right, two former windows with concrete lintels. A boarded door with a concrete lintel is on the left, with an infilled doorway to the right. The building has red brick ridge stacks located at the centre, right of centre, and to the left at the junction with a slightly lower range. There is an illegible datestone to the left gabled half-dormer. The right gable end features a chamfered three-light mullion window on each floor, with the lower window having large lights and dripstones, but without label-stops. The interior was not accessible during the resurvey in August 1987, but it is likely to be of interest.
