Description
This is an early 17th-century town house, later adapted for use as shops and an office. It is located on the west side of High Street, Witney, and was extended in the mid-19th century. The building is constructed of squared and coursed limestone, with a gabled stone slate roof and a ridge stack finished in brick. It has a three-unit plan and comprises two storeys and an attic, featuring a three-window gable. A moulded hood covers the 4-centred, ovolo-moulded doorway, which now has a 20th-century shop front. The original windows are stone-mullioned, with three lights, and similar two-light windows are set within three cross gables. Mid-19th century extensions have been added to the sides, with a one-window range to the left and a two-window range to the right. The early 17th-century interior includes plastered ceilings with boxed beams and a collar-truss roof with butt purlins. A 20th-century wing at the rear of the left side is not of architectural significance.
