Description
This is a range of farm buildings located approximately 35 meters to the west of Manor Farmhouse in Black Bourton. The buildings include a barn, a lofted stable, a stable, a cartshed, and a granary with a cartshed below. The barn likely dates from the late 18th century and has been altered, while the other structures were added in the mid-19th century. They are constructed from coursed rubble limestone with semi-dressed quoins. The barn and lofted stable have 20th-century slate roofs supported by 20th-century timbers, while the remaining buildings have stone slate roofs.
The barn features five bays, low vent slits, and 20th-century sliding doors at the central opposing cart entries, along with square vent holes in the right gable end. The lofted stable has two stable windows with wooden slat shutters, one of which includes a 20th-century fan. It also has a boarded loft opening in the center, a stable door to the left, and stone steps leading up to a gabled loft door on the right. All openings, except for the last one, have segmental dressed stone arches.
To the left of the lofted stable is a single-storey stable built in the same style, featuring one stable door and one window of similar design. Adjacent to this is a four-bay cartshed under the same roof, supported by wooden posts with small curved braces at the front and 20th-century trusses. The taller granary at the left end of the range has 20th-century wooden steps leading up to a boarded door with a segmental stone arch and a small gable above. Below the granary is a two-bay cartshed with shallow arches of dressed stone, and the granary retains its grain bins. This range is included for its group value, although later stockyard ranges attached to the west are not of special architectural interest.
