Description

The Old Inn is a former inn that has been converted into a house. It was originally built in the 17th century as a single range, with rear outshots added and the front raised in the 18th to early 19th century. The outshots were altered to create a parallel rear range around 1950. The building incorporates carved stone fragments, some of which are from Bourton Place, the former manor house of the Hungerford family, which was demolished around 1800.

The structure is made of coursed rubble limestone and features a two-span roof covered with stone slates, along with rebuilt rubble stone chimneys located to the right and between the right bays. It has two storeys and three bays. The windows are three-light wooden casements with horizontal glazing bars, which were renewed in the 20th century, all featuring wooden lintels. The ground floor lintels are older, while the upper lintels have been replaced. The ground floor of the right bay has a three-light window with hollow-chamfered stone mullions and a Tudor hoodmould, which may not be original to the house.

There is a 20th-century board door with a 20th-century wooden lintel situated between the right bays. Above the door is an 18th-century carved stone tablet featuring a military trophy, likely from Bourton Place. Additionally, a small square tablet below the eaves between the left bays displays simple motifs from the Hungerford arms. A tablet dated ITM 1655 is located below the eaves at the centre, which may be original to the house but could have been reset when the front was raised. Inside, there is a 17th-century stop-chamfered spine beam in the left bay, a winder stair in the right bay aligned with the stack, and altered trusses with cranked principals.
