Description

The Old Farmhouse is an early 18th-century farmhouse, later refurbished and extended to the rear during the 20th century. It is constructed of coursed rubble limestone with a stone slate roof and rebuilt rubble stone chimneys. The building originally comprised three units, with remains of a blocked lobby entry, and a slightly later 18th-century extension to the rear of the left bay. The farmhouse has two storeys and an attic, with a four-bay front. The windows are predominantly 20th-century 3-light barred wooden casements, likely in original openings; the upper windows in the three bays to the left have old wooden lintels, while the ground floor windows and the first-floor window to the right have 20th-century concrete lintels. Two gabled roof dormers each contain 20th-century 2-light barred wooden casements. A blocked doorway is visible in line with the stack between the right bays. A 20th-century entry is located in the right gable end. The left side of the building features a semi-circular oven projection to the later rear bay. Inside, the right bays retain chamfered spine beams, with the left bay featuring a stop-chamfered cross beam with run-out stops. There is a fireplace to the right of the centre, with dressed stone jambs and a later lintel, and a winder stair rises from the first floor to the attic, set on the axis of the chimney stack. The original double-purlin roof is also present.
