Description

The dovecote, located approximately 10 meters south of Kelmscott Manor, dates from the late 17th century and has undergone minor later alterations. It is constructed from uncoursed limestone rubble and features a stone slate roof with moulded coped verges and a pyramidal-capped lantern topped with a ball finial. The building has a square plan and consists of two storeys with a gable-lit attic. On the north side, there is a stable door with a wooden lintel, and there is an infilled opening low down on the west side. Inside, the ground floor contains pigeon nesting holes and ledges, some of which have been infilled. The current entrance appears to have been inserted as it cuts through one of the nesting holes.
