Description

KELMSCOTT SU29NE 5/88 Dovecot approx. 10m S of Kelmscott Manor 12.9.55 (Formerly listed as part of Kelmscott Manor with Barns to. SE and S of house, and Dovecote) GV II

Dovecote. Late C17 with minor later alterations. Uncoursed limestone rubble; stone slate roof with moulded coped verges and pyramidal-capped lantern surmounted by ball finial. Square plan. 2 storeys and gable-lit attic. Stable door with wood lintel on north side; infilled opening low down on west. Interior. Pigeon nesting holes and ledges to ground floor (some infilled). Present entrance must be inserted as cuts through one of nesting holes. [2383]
