Description
Jacobs Cottage comprises two houses, now combined into a single dwelling, located in Jacobs Yard, Middle Barton. The origins of the building date to the 17th century, with later additions in the 18th century. The construction is of rendered and colourwashed limestone rubble, with gabled thatch roofing, supported by late 19th-century brick ridge and end stacks. The house consists of two distinct ranges, each with a two-unit plan. Each range is two storeys high and incorporates a two-window arrangement. The left-hand range features timber lintels over a 20th-century door and casement windows. The right-hand range exhibits flat stone arches above a blocked central 20th-century door, now containing a window, and another 20th-century window to the left. A 20th-century door has been inserted to the right, with timber lintels over the first-floor casement windows. Small 20th-century extensions have been added to either side of the building. The interior has not been inspected, but is likely of architectural interest.
