Description
Upper Grove Ash Farmhouse is a farmhouse that likely dates from the 17th century, with alterations and extensions made in the early 18th century. It is built of coursed, squared marlstone and features wooden lintels, topped with plain-tile roofs and ashlar and blue-brick stacks. The building is designed in an L-shape and has two storeys plus an attic.
The early 18th-century section has two windows and includes a six-panel door located to the right of the center, along with a small blocked opening above the door and three-light casements in the outer bays. The roof is adorned with ashlar gable stacks. The rear of the house features a central full-height stair wing with a tall leaded window and a flanking outshut. The earlier range, which extends forward from the right side of the front, has three-light casements and several blocked openings. The gable wall shows remnants of a chamfered plinth. There is also a low outbuilding extension that projects to the right of the wing.
Inside, the later wing contains a large open fireplace and a winder stair. Grove Ash is noted as the site of a former village.
