Description

Corner Cottage is a house dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the early 19th century. It is built of coursed rubble limestone with an ashlar plinth and has a stone slate roof, featuring rebuilt brick chimneys on either side. The cottage has an outshot plan and stands two storeys tall with an attic, comprising two bays.

The early 19th-century windows include sashes with five panes on the ground floor and four panes above, all adorned with 17th-century double ovolo-moulded wooden lintels. There is a 20th-century three-pane sash window on the right, likely in a former doorway, which has a matching 20th-century lintel. A small gabled roof dormer on the right contains a two-light wooden casement. The central entrance features a six-panelled top-lit door set in a wooden surround, topped with a flat wooden cornice hood supported by shaped scroll brackets.

The left gable end has 20th-century sashes with moulded wooden lintels on the ground floor, small two-light wooden casements on the first floor and attic, and a 20th-century round window in the outshot. Inside, there is a heavy chamfered spine beam with moulded stops and a large fireplace at the right end. The front of the cottage is complemented by 19th-century wrought iron railings with hoops over small finials, along with a matching gate.
