Description
A pair of houses dating to around 1800, with later additions and some 20th-century alterations. The construction is of coursed rubble limestone with a stone slate roof. The chimneys are stone, with the left-hand one rebuilt in the 20th century. The houses are two storeys and have an attic, originally four bays wide. The right-hand bays feature old leaded casements with wooden lintels; a two-light window is on the first floor, and a three-light window on the ground floor to the right. A 20th-century lean-to porch with a 20th-century single light window is adjacent to the right-hand side of The Gate Cottage. The left-hand bays, comprising Inglenook Cottage, have 20th-century metal casements with old wooden lintels, a 20th-century half-glazed door, and a blocked doorway with a stone surround. There are small attic lights in the gable ends. The right-hand gable displays a re-sited stone tablet bearing the date VAW 1669. Flanking single-storey extensions are present, with the left extension containing an old board door and two single lights, while the right has a 20th-century leaded casement and a skylight. The buildings are included on the list for their group value.
