Description
Appleby Cottage is a house located on Witney Road in Kingston Bagpuize with Southmoor. The date inscribed on the brick quoin indicates it was built in 1732. The structure is made of coursed limestone rubble with brick dressings and features an old tile roof. The stone stack on the left end was rebuilt in the 20th century.
The house has a two-unit plan and is one storey with an attic, presenting a two-window range. A timber lintel is positioned over a 19th-century plank door, which is set in a leaded architrave and topped with a 20th-century gabled hood. There are segmental brick arches over 19th-century three-light casements, and late 19th-century gabled dormers with two-light casements. To the left, there is a one-bay outhouse that is weatherboarded and has a hipped old tile roof.
Inside, the room to the left features a full set of chamfered and stopped beams and joists, along with an open fireplace next to the winder stairs. There is also a ribbed door on the first floor and a two-bay roof with a closed truss.
