Description

Rime’s House is a late 17th-century farmhouse, now a house, situated on the Abingdon Road in Kingston Bagpuize. The building is constructed of coursed limestone rubble with a gabled stone slate roof and stone stacks at either end. It has a three-unit plan and a symmetrical three-window facade. The front has a 20th-century door set beneath an ovolo-moulded wood lintel with semi-lunette carvings, and a pediment hood with a similarly moulded soffit. Ground-floor windows are 3-light casements with leaded glass, beneath timber lintels, while the first-floor windows are 2-light casements with leaded glass. Two gabled dormers, each with a 2-light leaded casement, project from the roof. The rear elevation features 2-light leaded casements, and includes a one-storey, one-bay wing with matching casements. Internally, the house features timber-framed partitions and chamfered ogee-stopped beams. A room to the left has a cyma-moulded beam and a fireplace of similar design. The bressumer over the open fireplace incorporates scribing framing grouped as lunettes. A ribbed first-floor door is set within a chamfered architrave in the rear wing. The roof structure is an example of a collar-truss design.
