Description
53 The Causeway is a house with origins dating back to the 15th century, featuring a late 16th-century cross-range at the rear, 17th-century alterations, and late 19th-century encasement. The building is constructed of red brick with yellow brick dressings and has a slate roof, with brick ridge stacks located at the center and to the left of center. Originally a hall house, it is a two-storey structure with a four-window range and a cross-wing at the rear right. There is a 20th-century door to the left of center, which has an overlight and a segmental brick head. The late 19th-century angled bays are positioned to the left and right of center, featuring 20th-century windows. To the right, there are 20th-century casements within a 19th-century surround that has a segmental brick head, and 20th-century casements in 19th-century openings on the first floor. The cross-wing at the rear is made of large timber framing with roughcast infill. Although the interior has not been inspected, it is noted to contain remains of cruck blades and other features.
