Description
Steventon Primary School is a school building constructed around 1864 and 1871 by G.E. Street, with an addition made in 1900, as indicated by the foundation stone on the gable end. The building is made of red brick and features a stone sill band, an old plain-tile complex roof, a brick lateral stack at the rear, and a brick bell-cote on the left cross-wing. It has a complex plan, consisting of a single-storey, four-bay classroom range on the right, linked by a single-storey archway to a single-storey, three-bay classroom cross-wing on the left. The doorways have 19th-century plank doors, and the windows display irregular fenestration with 19th-century casements, some of which are fitted with wrought-iron bars from the same period. The interior has not been inspected but is noted to have 20th-century alterations, and the 20th-century additions are not considered to have special architectural interest. The building is included for its group value.
