Description
Labernum Cottage is a house dating from the early 18th century. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble with a stone slate roof, although the rear has a 20th-century tile roof and brick stacks. The cottage features a two-unit plan and stands two storeys high with a three-window range. The entrance has timber lintels over plank doors, and there is an early 20th-century hood with a gabled stone slate roof. The windows are early 20th-century three-light casements with timber lintels. The gabled roof has gable end stacks, and there is a one-light leaded casement on the left gable wall, along with a contemporary outshut at the rear left.
Inside, the room to the right has a full set of chamfered and stopped beams and joists, a blocked open fireplace, and an 18th-century plank door with strap hinges leading to the winder stairs next to the stack. The first floor features 19th-century plank and four-panelled doors, as well as an original fireplace with a moulded mantelshelf on the left. The roof structure is a three-bay collar-truss design with butt purlins. Attached to the right is a single-storey brewhouse built from similar materials, which has timber lintels over 20th-century casements and plank double doors, along with a half-hipped roof. The interior of the brewhouse contains 19th-century coppers on the left.
