Description

APPLETON WITH EATON NETHERTON ROAD SP4401 (South side) Appleton 9/31 Building, formerly cottage, approx. 20m. N of No.9 (The Rectory) (not included)

Small house, now store. Late C17. Uncoursed limestone rubble; thatch roof, with iron sheeting to part of rear, is hipped to right and gabled with brick end stack to left. 2-unit plan. One-storey, 2-window range. Timber lintels over blocked door and flanking C20 three-light casements: C17 three-light wood-mullioned ovolo-moulded half-dormer window. Rear: segmental brick arch over doorway to left of inserted garage doors. Interior: left room has cased beams, winder stairs adjoining fireplace and queen-post truss set on timber-framed partition, with wattle and daub infill. Included for group value.
