Description
Watercress Lodge is a house dating from the late 16th century. It is constructed from uncoursed sarsen and chalk rubble, with chalk quoins and a chalk stack, topped by a thatched roof. The building has a two-unit plan and is one and a half storeys high, featuring a two-window range. A late 20th-century porch is attached to a projecting stack, with a timber lintel above a 20th-century door in its original position, and timber lintels over 20th-century casements. The house has a large projecting lateral stack and a half-hipped roof.
Inside, there is a buttery area to the left with a plain chamfered beam, and this room is separated from the parlour by a timber-framed partition. The parlour features an ovolo-moulded beam with an elaborate stop and an open fireplace. There are late 20th-century stairs in their original position, and the roof consists of common rafters with wattle and daub infill and butt purlins. Additionally, there is a three-bay 20th-century extension on the right side.
