Description
Old Yeomanry House is a late 18th-century house located on Wallingford Street in Wantage. It is constructed of Flemish bond brick with flared headers and features a Welsh slate roof with a brick stack. The building has an L-shaped plan and consists of two storeys with a three-window range. The entrance includes a 20th-century door flanked by 20th-century doors within 19th-century pedimented surrounds. The windows above are late 18th-century sashes with segmental arches and timber lintels. The roof is hipped to the left and is attached to the right. The rear left wing has a three-window range with three 18th-century sashes and two ridge stacks. Before the First World War, this building served as the "D section" of the Berkshire Yeomanry. It is attached to Alton House on the right and is included for its group value.
