Description

This building is a farmhouse that has been converted into three garages, located approximately 20 meters east of St. Frideswide's Cottage. It dates from the late 16th century to early 17th century, with a one-bay extension added in the 18th century. The structure is made of squared and coursed chalk on a sarsen base, featuring chalk quoins on the front and side. The rear wall was rebuilt when openings were made for the garages in the 20th century. The roof is thatched with a tile valley, and there is one brick ridge stack along with one chalk end stack from the late 16th or early 17th century. The building has an L-plan layout, is one and a half stories tall, and has a three-window range. A timber lintel is above a 19th-century plank door that was originally centered on the front until the 18th-century bay was added. There are timber lintels over three-light leaded casements and three 20th-century casements. The ridge stack is located at the junction with the 18th-century bay, and the end stack projects from the left gable wall. The roof is gabled and half-hipped. Inside, there are newel stairs next to a timber-framed wall at the junction of the two wings. The rear left wing and the three-unit front wing feature original beams with cyma stops. The room to the left has an oak bressumer over a fireplace that includes a cast iron range from around 1800. This building is included for its group value.
