Description
Breakspear Cottage is a house that likely dates from the early 17th century. It is constructed from squared and coursed chalk, with uncoursed chalk rubble on a sarsen base, and features chalk quoins, brick dressings, and a stack. The roof is thatched. The building has a one-unit plan and is one and a half storeys high, with a two-window range. There is a 20th-century brick porch with a timber lintel above a 19th-century plank door that has a lock. Most windows are 20th-century casements, except for one 18th-century two-light leaded casement on the left. The roof is hipped, and there is an end stack on the left side. Inside, there is a full set of chamfered and stopped beams and joists, along with a two-bay collar-truss roof featuring butt purlins. There is also a 20th-century lean-to with an entry on the left and a 20th-century gabled extension at the rear.
