Description

Compton Marsh Farmhouse is an early 18th-century farmhouse located in Compton Beauchamp. The main building is constructed of sarsen and chalk rubble, with brick dressings, and has an old tiled roof and brick stacks. It follows a central staircase plan and has a 2-storey, 2-window front. The central entrance has a six-panelled door (four glazed), flanked by carved brackets supporting a hood. The original windows are three-light leaded casements, set within segmental brick arches, with the exception of a late 19th-century canted bay window to the right of the door. Other features include brick crossbanding, quoins and dentilled eaves. The roof is hipped, with a front lateral and end stack, plus a lateral stack to the rear. Inside, there are four-panelled doors. Attached to the right is a two-story service range constructed of Flemish bond brick with a stone slate roof. This range also has a 2-window range, a segmental brick arch over a central door, three-light leaded casements, dentilled eaves, and a half-hipped roof.
