Description
The Haven is a house that dates from the late 16th century to the mid 17th century and was converted into two cottages in the late 18th century. It was originally timber framed with wattle and daub infill, likely encased in brick during the late 18th century, featuring brick at the rear and uncoursed brick on the front and side walls. The building has a thatched roof and brick stacks. The original two-bay plan was extended in the late 18th century with an outshut. It is one and a half storeys high and has a two-window range. There is a 20th-century door next to a 20th-century window that blocks a former door. The rear of the house has 20th-century casements flanking a central door and features symmetrical gable-end stacks with a hipped roof. There is a 20th-century single bay and one-storey block that is weatherboarded over the timber frame against the gable wall. Inside, there are open fireplaces next to the stairs, one of which is from the late 20th century and the other is a quarter turn type from the late 18th century. The roof is a two-bay design with a collar truss and butt purlins.
