Description

Upper Mill is a mill and house dating from 1792, as indicated by a datestone in the wall. The building is constructed from uncoursed chalk and sarsen rubble, with brick quoins and dressings, and features an old tiled roof with brick stacks. It has an L-shaped plan and is one and a half stories tall, with a two-window range. The entrance is located at the rear, and there are segmental brick arches over 20th-century casements. The datestone to the right is inscribed I&W/I&N/1792. The eaves are dentilled, and there is a central weather-boarded and gabled hoist supported by wooden brackets. Each gable wall has an oeuil-de-boeuf with a 20th-century casement at the top. The roof is half-hipped.

Inside, the original layout is not clearly defined. To the left is a single-storey building from around 1792, built in brick Flemish bond with a 20th-century tiled roof, along with a 20th-century porch and French windows. There is also a single-storey building, likely a stable with a gable entry, to the left. The miller's accommodation is located at the rear right, constructed of brick with a Welsh slate roof, featuring a four-window range with segmental brick arches over a central entry and 20th-century casements, along with a brick ridge stack.
