Description
This is a probable early 17th-century house, with alterations made in the 18th century, situated on the east side of East Hendred High Street. The main part of the house is constructed of red brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with flared headers, and has an old plain-tile roof. A brick stack is positioned on the right side of the ridge. The house is two storeys high and has a two-window front facing the street. A central four-panel, part-glazed door provides access, and there are three-light casement windows on both the ground and first floors, with the ground-floor windows featuring segmental brick heads. A brick dentil course runs along the eaves. The left return, facing the street, shows painted brickwork on the ground floor and roughcast on the first floor and in the attic, which may be on timber framing. A 20th-century bow window is on the ground floor, and a two-light casement window is on the first floor. A painted wood dentil cornice sits between the first floor and the attic. The interior has not been inspected.
To the rear and left of the original cottage is an adjoining house, likely dating to the early 19th century. It is constructed of painted brick with a slate roof and is a tall, single-storey, single-window range facing the street. It features a 20th-century sash door on the left side and a tall wooden mullion and transom shop window in the centre. The interior of this house has also not been inspected.
