Description
Hill Side is a stone villa built around 1820-1830, located on the north side of London Street in Great Faringdon. The building is two stories high with a double pile design, featuring a slate valley roof and four ashlar end wall stacks, although one has been removed. The south front is made of ashlar stone and has a basement plinth, along with a three-window range of large glazing bar sash windows. The center of the facade projects slightly and includes a platband, a moulded cornice, and a parapet that is broken forward at the center. The parapet also features an open pediment on panelled blocks with a sunk roundel in the tympanum.
The central round arched doorway is topped with a lantern in the fanlight and has a five-panel door with reeded panels. A projecting painted porch supported by four columns has a segmental arched roof adorned with incised roundels and reeding. The ground floor windows are enhanced by iron flower-balconies. The rear of the villa is constructed from coursed rubble and includes a central half-storey stair light, with flower balconies on the second-floor windows. Inside, there is an open well cantilever staircase with a continuous moulded rail.
