Description
These three cottages, now shops, were originally built in the late 16th or early 17th century. They were initially timber-framed. The exterior is roughcast, with a 20th-century tile roof and a brick stack. The buildings follow a three-unit plan, with a three-window front. They have two storeys. The doors and windows are 20th century replacements, but the first floor has 18th-century sash windows. The roof is gabled, with a stack along the ridge.
Inside number 26 (on the left) are chamfered quartered beams on the first floor, mid-19th century two-panelled doors, and a timber-framed partition on the right. Number 24 has a chamfered beam and a chamfered bressumer over an open fireplace, built into a chalk rubble stack. Number 22 (on the right) features a chamfered ground-floor beam, jowled posts to two queen-post trusses with windbraces and clasped purlins within the timber-framed side walls, which have wattle and daub infill.
